The cooperation between the organisers of Rallye Český Krumlov and the Austrian Jännerrallye continues. For a discounted combined entry fee, crews can compete in both rallies and have the chance to win prize money of up to EUR 4,000. Simon Wagner won the first edition of the Regional Rallye Cup.
The premiere of the INOTECH electronic Regional Rallye Cup has been a hit – with 39 entries for the 2020 Jännerrallye, more than half of its entry field has entered the cross-border cup. Due to the pandemic and the associated rescheduling of the Rally Český Krumlov from May 2020 to November 2021, only about half of them started at the second event in the Czech Republic. The Austrians had a clear advantage: Simon Wagner was able to show remarkable speed in his Opel Corsa Rally4 on the November Rallye Český Krumlov, and was clearly the fastest 2WD car in the overall standings, ahead of Hermann Gassner (Mitsubishi) and Markus Stockinger in his Mazda, and took the RRC prize-money. The 2WD classification was won by brothers Michael and Markus Franz from Waldviertel in a Volkswagen Golf Kit Car.
Also in 2023 it will be possible to take part in both rallies for a common entry fee of EUR 1,250, or EUR 1,500 for Rally2 cars. Compared to individual entries, this represents a saving of almost 30 percent. Once again, you have the chance to win prize money – the fastest driver in the Regional Rallye Cup gets €2,500, the fastest driver in the 2WD category gets €1,500. Each day’s results are individually scored in the RRC points system, so if you withdraw one day, nothing is lost. You can start again on the second day and still have a chance to score points. Bonus points are awarded for finishing in the overall rally standings.
As for the stages, both rallies are even closer this time. The new Windhaag stage of the January Jännerrallye is just two kilometres away from SS Malonty and has very similar characteristics to some of the Czech tests in the opening part. Austrian spectators don’t even have to travel to the Czech Republic to experience the Rallye Český Krumlov on the spot. Access is possible either via Leopoldschlag or Windhaag, with parking available in Hammern along Maltschstraße. From there, it’s just a five-minute walk across the border to the Malonty stage.
The Jännerrallye will take place on 5-7 January, the Rallye Český Krumlov is scheduled for 19 and 20 May. The winners of the RRC will be announced during an awards ceremony on Saturday evening in Český Krumlov.
